Complete List of Travel Restrictions in Peru in 2023

Peru Travel Restricions in 2023

Peru is a country that has been deeply affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the challenges, its natural beauty and rich cultural heritage are gradually bringing tourism back. If you’re planning a trip to Peru, it’s important to be aware of the current travel restrictions in place in Peru as of 2023.

Covid related travel restrictions in Peru

As of September 2022, travelers are no longer required to be fully vaccinated or present a negative COVID-19 test to enter Peru.

The use of masks is no longer compulsory in most public spaces, including buses and airplanes. However, they are still required in hospitals and other health facilities. Also, the government advises people to wear them in closed spaces with limited ventilation. So, don’t be surprised if you see some people still wearing masks, especially in public transport or among older people.

Passport and Visa Requirements

A valid passport is required for entry into Peru (though most South Americans don’t need one). The passport must be valid for at least six months from the date of entry. Additionally, depending on your nationality, a visa may be required depending on the length of stay and the purpose of the visit. Citizens of the EU and nationals of the majority of countries of the Americas, don’t need a visa.

Length of Stay

Tourists are officially able to stay in Peru for up to 183 days within a period of 365 days. You usually get a 90-day permit at the immigration control at the airport, but it’s possible to request a longer stay. If you want to stay for 180 days, be sure to mention it when you present your passport. Keep in mind that the information on the number of days you’re allowed to stay will now be virtual. To confirm how many days you have been given, you’ll need to ask the immigration officials.
